Simulator Complex Expansion
George Bush Intercontinental Airport
Houston, Texas

SPA provided design, project management and construction related services for the $5 million
renovation of the simulator complex located at Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Maintaining daily operations and training during construction was a critical component to the
successful completion of the simulator complex expansion.

SPA’s design team integrated two-story building additions comprised of 45,000 square feet into
the existing structure’s architecture. Also, this project included the interior renovation of an
additional 20,000 square feet within the existing structure.

Completed in 1999, the renovated facility houses ten flight simulators for 727, 737, 757, 777,
MD80 and DC 10 jet aircraft training. The facility features computer support equipment, flight
training devices (FTDS), classroom areas and full support for computer-based training (CBT).

Our client, Continental Airlines continues to prepare for the future by planning for additional
training facilities. During mid 1999, construction began for a 32,000 square-foot simulator
complex designed to house two, EMB 145 regional jet simulators. Planned expansions of the
current simulator complex will also enable the airline operator to train pilots on a 767 aircraft
simulator.
